Smalltown Minigolf & Wild Reindeer Park Launches Captive Seal Program
Seal farming is a type of aquaculture that involves raising seals in captivity. If it happens in the ocean, it’s called marine farming. If it happens with wild seals, it’s called sealery (not to be confused with the trend in Scandinavian interior design).
While Smalltown’s Meat & Fat Depot already runs a thriving sea cucumber operation in the local creeks, this is the first serious attempt in years to invest in saltwater creatures—unless you count the failed coconut bun aquaculture of 2019.
“This is Smalltown’s moon landing,” says Andy Antlers, the manager of Smalltown Minigolf & Wild Reindeer Park. “And it fits perfectly with the reindeer section of our business.”
“How so?” we ask, cautiously.
“Well, let me explain,” says Antlers, now fully committed to the bit. “Seals are mammals. Reindeer are mammals. That means they already have so much in common. They can learn a lot from each other.”
“Such as?” we ask, because apparently this is happening.
“Swimming, for example,” says Antlers confidently. “Or grazing in the wild. It goes both ways, really.”
