May 17th Parade Marches Down Main Street from the Smalltown Sleeper-Skating Club to City Hall, waving foreign flags.
Smalltown Magazine can report a strong turnout at the Smalltown Sleeper-Skating Club this morning, just before the launch of the annual May 17th parade—celebrated here due to some long-lost Viking-descended settlers who apparently once declared the day excellent for ice cream and marching children.
Blistered feet and scraped knees won’t stop the school kids: no stepping out until City Hall.
At the square, flags are flying while the children are rewarded with ice cream and Band-Aids. May 17th is, after all, a day for sunshine and joy.
The only truly exhausted faces belong to the parents. But normal life resumes tomorrow, when preschools and schools gratefully reclaim their young.
